INFORMATION ABOUT US
The Bluebonnet Squares was
organized in January 1979 under the leadership of Tom and Julie Chambers. Sponsored by
The Bluebonnet Squares’ original
purpose was to promote square dancing as a recreational activity and to promote
friendship and fellowship among participating members as well as all guests
attending dances. All activities were to
be based on high standards of conduct and behavior.
Now, more than 25 years later,
those objectives continue to be carried out, both by the present membership and
by more than 650 former members. The
club has developed a reputation for fellowship and fun that is well-known in
the Houston area, and a number of
lasting friendships have developed between members, and other square
dancers, over the years.
The Bluebonnet Squares continue to
dance on Monday nights at Spring Woods United Methodist Church. The club presently has a combined couples and
singles membership of about 120. The
club caller is Wayne Morvent. Local,
regional, and national guest callers frequently call club dances
Square dance lessons, the first of
which were held in January 1979, continue to be conducted annually, starting in
the fall. And members of the Bluebonnet
Squares regularly participate together in a variety of social activities built
around this uniquely American dance.
