INFORMATION ABOUT US

The Bluebonnet Squares was organized in January 1979 under the leadership of Tom and Julie Chambers.  Sponsored by Spring Woods United Methodist Church, the club initially had a membership of 37 couples, with  Joe Baimbridge as the caller.

The Bluebonnet Squares’ original purpose was to promote square dancing as a recreational activity and to promote friendship and fellowship among participating members as well as all guests attending dances.  All activities were to be based on high standards of conduct and behavior.

Now, more than 25 years later, those objectives continue to be carried out, both by the present membership and by more than 650 former members.  The club has developed a reputation for fellowship and fun that is well-known in the Houston area, and a number of   lasting friendships have developed between members, and other square dancers, over the years.

The Bluebonnet Squares continue to dance on Monday nights at Spring Woods United Methodist Church.  The club presently has a combined couples and singles membership of about 120.  The club caller is Wayne Morvent.  Local, regional, and national guest callers frequently call club dances

Square dance lessons, the first of which were held in January 1979, continue to be conducted annually, starting in the fall.  And members of the Bluebonnet Squares regularly participate together in a variety of social activities built around this uniquely American dance.
